HARBERT

Harbert visitors will enjoy the unique art galleries, antique shops and a wonderful variety of dining opportunities. The influence of the Scandinavian families who helped create this thriving resort community is still felt today, and can be experienced at popular Swedish bakeries established in the 1960’s.
Each summer the town of Harbert hosts the “Umbrellas of Harbert” charity auction, which features a display of original, hand-painted 9 ft. market umbrellas designed by various artists displayed along Red Arrow Hwy. throughout the summer. Each August the umbrellas are auctioned off, and the proceeds benefit different local charities each year.

- Orchards and vineyards
- Art galleries and antique shops
- Hometown of Pulitzer Prize winner Carl Sandburg

Loved the house, porch and deck! We had a great time. A few things were not communicated bu Bluefish, though....the nearby beach is closed (so we drove each day to Union Pier and searched for parking) and the only coffee maker is a Keurig (and no pods were provided. With a late check in time, we then had to drive back to a store and bought pods and a coffeemaker for our week).

We've been staying in the area for several years and this has been our favorite house yet. The kitchen is gorgeous and actually has all the stuff you need to cook real meals. The porches are perfect-- both the outdoor porch and the screened in porch. It's decorated nicely-- it seriously has the most extraordinary collection of coffee table books. The mattresses have super soft toppers (the pillows too soft-- bring your own). The location is great-- although the local beach is currently washed out, it is a 3 minute drive to either Cherry Beach or the dunes. We walked to get bakeries every morning, and our favorite restaurant in the area, Cafe Gulistan, was also in slightly longer walking distance. Despite being so close to Red Arrow Highway though, it felt tucked back into a quiet woody neighborhood. The grill is charcoal if you are used to having a vacation house with a gas grill. I expected it to be really buggy outside at night and it really wasn't-- however if you sit on the porch you may end up with pine sap landing on you occasionally. One caveat-- if you plan to watch a lot of TV; this is not the house for you. The house is set up for socialization, game playing, and entertaining, not TV watching-- it's tiny and tucked into a corner.
