As measures continue to be taken across the globe to address and prevent the further spread of COVID-19, the health and wellbeing of our guests, staff and community remain Bluefish Vacation Rentals’ top priority.

We are closely monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization’s statements regarding COVID-19 and following guidelines from these agencies and local officials of the communities we operate in, as well as the Vacation Rental Management Association and their SafeHome campaign.

Flexible Cancellations

We understand this is a difficult time for travelers and to ensure guests are able to book with confidence, Bluefish Vacation Rentals has adjusted our rental policies allowing any confirmed guests increased flexibility to reschedule the dates of their upcoming stay on the property they reserved through the end of the year. Concerned travelers have the option to choose an alternative open date for the same property they have already booked. Revised bookings should reflect the same duration. Should you be unable to reserve an alternate date in 2020, you will be able to apply your total booking cost to a reservation in 2021 for the same property. Note, additional booking fees may apply.

Enhanced Cleaning Procedures

Bluefish Vacation Rentals has always had high standards for cleanliness in our properties. As members of the Vacation Rental Housekeeping Professionals, Bluefish Vacation Rentals’s housekeepers have their Certified Vacation Rental Housekeeper certificates.

We are taking additional measures and working with our housekeeping and maintenance teams on improved protocols and best practices. All of our staff and vendors must undergo training for proper sanitation and disinfection procedures as recommended by the CDC, WHO and EPA.

Our housekeepers and maintenance departments have attended webinar trainings focusing on the proper cleaning procedures and product use to disinfect surfaces as put out by the CDC. They clean and disinfect all hard surfaces within our vacation homes, including floors, countertops, railings, sink faucets, appliances, doorknobs, wall light switches, switch plate covers, lamp switches, cabinet hardware and remote controls. Depending on the disinfectant, the product is sprayed and left for up to several minutes.

All bed linens, towels, and bathmats are laundered using disinfectant detergent at an offsite commercial launderer that can provide the high-water temperature, soaps, and sanitization needed for proper laundering. All comforters have duvet sheet covers so they can be removed for laundering, and all decorative pillows and blankets that cannot be laundered have been removed. All linens are treated as if they were contaminated and properties have a full turnover of linens, towels and bathmats.

Prior to each guest arrival and following each guest departure, our rental properties are disinfected following the CDC guidelines on product use and contact time as well as additional cleaning procedures. In addition, we require mandatory spring deep cleans and maintenance checks for all properties prior to the first guest of the season.

All staff is provided with the required PPE to wear and must follow social distancing guidelines on property. Pool service, landscaping and other maintenance vendors must do the same. Note, at this time, Bluefish Vacation Rentals is not keeping any pool floats on site. These items will be discarded after each guests’ departure. In addition, all exterior furniture will be cleaned and disinfected following the CDC guidelines.

Social Distancing Practices

All of our homes are equipped with a key box or have keyless entries, which helps limit personal interaction during stays and lets you access your property directly without having to stop in an office or to meet anyone at check-in. Twenty-four hours prior to arrival, you will receive an email with your specific reservation code.

Check-In/Check-Out Procedures

Due to additional time being needed for additional cleaning protocols at our properties, Bluefish check-in and check-out times have been revised for 2020. Our check-in time is 6:00 pm EST and our check-out time is 9:00 am EST. Early check-ins and late check-outs will not be permitted at this time. All of our homes are equipped with a key box or have keyless entries. Your specific reservation entry code will be sent to you 24 hours prior to your scheduled arrival.

Grocery Shopping and Delivery Options

Arrive to a fully stocked kitchen at your vacation rental home. Harbor Country has one main grocery store in town and it can get busy, especially on arrival days! Have peace of mind and settle into your stay by having us do your grocery shopping, delivery and stocking of your groceries prior to your arrival. We also offer mid-stay grocery shopping and delivery right to your door. For these services, we charge 20% of the receipt total. To schedule, please contact us at:

A list of grocery stores close to your vacation rental home can be found in your Welcome Binder upon check-in. Harbor Country’s local grocery store, Barney’s in New Buffalo, offers curbside pick-up Monday-Thursday. Currently, their delivery is only available for guests staying at our New Buffalo properties.

As of June 4th, retailers are open without any need to schedule an appointment.

Current Dining Options

As of June 8th, the dining options you have grown to love in Harbor Country are open and offering indoor and outdoor dining options, as well as continuing with carry-out. All restaurants and bars are allowed to serve at 50% capacity.

Guest Starter Supplies

When you arrive at your Bluefish home, we want to ensure you feel confident that you have everything you’ll need to settle in. Upon arrival, all properties will be stocked with surface cleaning supplies for the kitchen and bathrooms, 2 rolls of wrapped toilet paper/bathroom, 2 rolls of paper towels, trash bags, individually wrapped sponge, individually wrapped laundry detergent and dishwasher packets and individually wrapped bar soaps at every sink.

The CDC recommends all households consider cleaning and disinfecting “high-touch” surfaces daily in shared household areas (i.e. tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, lamp switches, remotes, handles, desks, toilets, sinks).

Outdoor Experiences

Enjoy the fresh air and explore the outdoors! Our beaches and other outdoor recreational activities are open. Beside boating, fishing and golf, Harbor Country is also home to Warren Dunes State Park, nature preserves, bike trails, and other recreational areas. Outdoor Equipment Rental

We can assist you in scheduling boat charters, boat rentals, and jet skis. Experience Harbor Country to its fullest by also having outdoor equipment delivered to your vacation rental prior to your arrival.

We have partnered with a local company who offers rentals of: paddleboards, kayaks, Maui Mats and bikes. All proper guidelines are followed to clean and sanitize all equipment between rentals. Daily, weekend and weekly rentals are available. Contact us for more information at
