Summer will be here soon, and that has us thinking locally. It goes without saying that downtown specialty shops, boutiques, and restaurants are essential to the Harbor Country economy. Another component of our community that also deserves our attention in Southwest Michigan is farmers markets. Farmers markets offer visitors an excellent opportunity to enjoy fresh food, interact with a friendly community, and, last but not least, live like a local. To help you tune into the Southwest Michigan farmers market scene, we’ll share some of our favorites near Bluefish Vacation Rentals. Your “local farmers market near me” search is over!
Skip’s European Farmers Market
Skip’s European Farmers Market offers visitors a captivating experience for the senses. Every week brings new discoveries as patrons wander among diverse vendors offering everything from fresh herbs and organic produce to artisanal cheeses, handcrafted jewelry, and more. Shoppers are invited to visit Saturdays and Sundays from mid-May to mid-October, weather permitting. The market is located at the corner of Red Arrow Highway and Lakeshore Road in New Buffalo Township.
St. Joe Farmers Market
Every Saturday from the last Saturday of May through the first Saturday of October, the St. Joe Farmers Market offers an impressive selection of local meats, baked goods, produce, plants, dairy products, and more. You can find this popular Southwest Michigan farmers market at Lake Bluff Park. They also offer special hours during town events, so be sure to check out their unofficial page on the St. Joe Today website!
Three Oaks Market
As one of the more renowned Southwest Michigan farmers markets, Three Oaks Market is open on Fridays starting the first week of June and is a must-stop for anyone who appreciates supporting local businesses. Located on the corner of Oak Street and S. Elm Street, this popular community staple features some of Harbor Country’s best produce, culinary crafts, and artisanal goods in the region.
Michigan City Farmers Market
For guests staying in one of our Northeast Indiana homes, the Michigan City Farmers Market is another place to consider. Patrons can expect an eclectic assortment of baked goods, fresh veggies, salsa, crafts, and more. This thoughtfully placed location is embedded in the Uptown Arts District and is open every Saturday from early May to the last Saturday of October.
Other Noteworthy Things to Do in Southwest Michigan
Although they technically won’t make our list of Southwest Michigan farmers markets, the Makers Trail Festival and Lake Bluff Artisan Fair are worthy additions to your summer vacation itinerary.
The Makers Trail Festival is a collection of tours showcasing local craft beverages, culinary artisans, and regional musicians. Many makers’ locations host events such as trivia nights, live entertainment, and celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Lake Bluff Artisan Fair offers a diverse array of handcrafted goods ranging from one-of-a-kind jewelry to home decor and furniture. This family-friendly event is held outdoors and is an excellent place to find mementos and gifts.
